As an easy, cheap, and painless solution to the educational crisis in Spain and beyond, we present a radical UnderAcademy College course called “Off Course: Escuela del Caos”. More than a course — it is a performance art piece carried out in a Moodle Course Management System. Run during three-weeks in the summer of 2013 with students from the Erasmus Intensive Program at U. of Complutense, the archives feature student works and lessons from the course that saved Spain. Organized by Maria Goicoechea and Mark Marino, participant teachers included Talan Memmott and others.
María Goicoechea has a degree in English Philology from the University Complutense of Madrid and a Master’s Degree in Intercultural Communication from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). Her doctoral dissertation is entitled The Reader in Cyberspace: A Literary Ethnography of Cyberculture (2004). Currently, she is a teacher of the English Department at the University Complutense of Madrid (UCM). Her research interests include literary theory, ethnography, and cyberculture. She is a member of LEETHI Research Group (UCM), and of HERMENEIA (Universitat de Barcelona), two interdisciplinary research groups dedicated to the study of literature and computers.
