Operatus

Operatus is a live performance of a generative narrative-poetic system distributed between screens, interactive objects and augmented reality overlays. The work engages a range of historical and contemporary contexts of observation and forensic analysis including early modern surgical theaters, the deductive logic of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and The Stud File, a methodical archive of personal evidence documenting the sexual exploits of Samuel Steward, a 20th century tattoo artist, pornographer, and friend of Gertrude Stein.

Judd Morrissey is an electronic writer whose multimodal projects encompass elements of internet art, live performance, site-responsive installation, and structured public participation. He is the author of digital literary works including The Precession (2011), The Last Performance [dot org] (2009), The Jew’s Daughter (2006), and My Name is Captain, Captain (2002). He recently formed Anatomical Theaters of Mixed Reality, a collective exploring historical and contemporary concepts of observation, forensics and data analysis through embodied performance and emerging technologies. He teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
